Shelly Meggison Myers serves not only as Associate Professor of Oboe, but also as the Assistant Director, Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Alabama School of Music. Prior to joining the University of Alabama faculty, she earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Lethbridge, and a Master of Music degree from the University Of Cincinnati College Conservatory Of Music, where she has also pursued doctoral studies.

Professor Myers currently serves as principal oboist for the Tusacloosa Symphony Orchestra, and has also performed with the Alabama Symphony, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, the Meridian Symphony, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cincinnati Vocal Arts Ensemble. In February of 2004, she was guest soloist with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra, performing Marcello's "Oboe Concerto in d minor" and Albinoni's "Concerto for Two Oboes op. 9 no. 12." In May of 2009 she performed as the oboe soloist in Mozart's "Sinfonia Concertante" with the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, and was featured again in January of 2011 performing Wayne Barlow's "A Winter's Passed."

Professor Myers has toured throughout the United States and Canada as soloist, chamber musician, and clinician. She is a member of the Capstone Woodwind Quintet and the Cavell Reed Trio both made up of University of Alabama faculty. The Cavell Trio has performed as venues around the globe and will release their second album in the spring of 2014. Their first album "The Art of Collective Invention," has been well received and is available on the Blue Griffin record label. Professor Myers is not only an active chamber music performer, but also coach and educator. Prior to joining the University of Alabama Faculty, she previously held the position of Adjunct Professor of Oboe at the Northern Kentucky University.
